About Rebecca Hearfield

Hi, my name is Rebecca Hearfield, and I’m a professional photographer and Director of Photography (DOP) based in Johannesburg, South Africa. My journey began at The Star newspaper, amidst the tumultuous era of apartheid. It was there, capturing the raw essence of political protests and the human spirit, that my passion for documentary photography ignited.

Through my lens, I’ve witnessed history, documenting the transition to democracy in South Africa and the vibrant stories that followed. My career took a freelance path, allowing me to collaborate with corporates, PR agencies, and international organizations like the UN, NGO’s, and foundations, focusing on humanitarian efforts globally. Notably, my work with the WK Kellogg Foundation and UNICEF has not only been a professional highlight but a personal honor, capturing the resilience and hope of communities around the world.

With the evolution of digital media, my expertise expanded into videography, embracing the power of video to tell compelling stories. Today, I lead RM Photography & Video, where we specialize in capturing the essence of humanity, whether through still images or motion, always aiming to narrate stories that matter.
